some things may be better left unexplained…

I recently tried recounting the latest adventures in Mexico with the beautiful Heather Strickland to my father, and found describing the ZaPOPum festival just a little challenging.
“There was these spheres, on the top of these long poles, and they were dancing to music, and everybody was watching, but the spheres were actually people. And then we went to this tent that was inflatable and had colors and people would just sit by a color, and there was music piped into the tent.”
Mind you it took me a good amount of time, since in the midst of telling my dad, I began to recognize the sheer absurdity of trying to explain it all, and I slipped into uncontrollable laughter, which of course set him off laughing, and it went on that way for what seemed like minutes.
“Were there drugs involved?” he asked at one point — a fair enough question, considering.
So I felt a need to support our experience at Guadalajara’s little art festival with some pictures. For some things, words just won’t do.
First the spheres:
And next, the tent of colors (no special effects, and, you’ll note, no faces in the one of Heather and I):
I call that last one “Girl Gone Green.” It’s really a statement about my girlfriend’s quick embrace and easy adoption of environmentally friendly and sustainable behaviors. Okay, it’s not that serious.

More to come, including a cowboy and a lady of the night…
