Penn
April 23, 2008
Dear Pennsylvania and white women over 60,
We had a shot. An actual break from the same choices we’ve had for the last 20 years.
If yesterday goes down as the day momentum shifted back to a preference for two only slightly different choices — Bush in the guise of McCain or Clinton in the guise of well, Clinton, let me be the first to whole heartedly thank you for completely squelching my generation’s hope for leadership renewal in this broken republic.
Signed,
Still Disillusioned.
P.S. Obama, navigate the issues like you can, with your understanding of the forces of East and West, North and South, address the complexities and propose possible, concrete solutions. And close this up.
she might think…
April 13, 2008
She might think I don’t think of her when there’s three tonight instead of four, when I mention her name a dozen times to fill the empty seat next to me, in the booth, in the restaurant, where we once were the only two customers, talking with the bartender and waitress about the place she now lives, as winter made drifts outside.
She might think I don’t think of her the way I don’t think about dressing for the day, even while I talk about the books she’s reading when she’s not around to smile in her telling of the man who builds schools in Pakistan.
She might think I don’t think of her when she asks how my head has gone lost again, and I can’t pick out God or anyone from a crowd, and how I don’t always distrust the missing of lightning when love stays on, and how I almost always forget how much I miss thunderstorms after a long winter.
I know why she might think I don’t miss her when she’s gone.
